What are branding/advertising companies charging to name...?

a product? I am trying to land a job naming a product for a company and I don't believe they have used outside help before. I am a freelance copywriter and when I quoted the person I believe who was in charge of this project he laughed at me over the phone. I was glad to give him a laugh but what his company was looking to pay is a $100. Which is just as laughable as the price I quoted him. What he is offering is about one-tenth of one percent of what I quoted him. I believe based on industry standards the price what fair. I just think he wasn't too familar with this sort of thing. Branding and naming is worth something.
